Resumo: This work aims at analyzing, discussing and proposing a reflection about playing in Early Childhood Education, with children from zero to six years old, having as material the bibliographic analysis where relevant arguments were pointed out on the theme. While children play, they assimilate concepts, values, information, and interact with other children. They develop speech, moral formation, awaken the imagination, learn to deal with frustrations, in short, they grow. The play activities enable development, not only as a didactic tool to facilitate learning, since games, games and toys influence children's developmental areas important for children's growth, such as: motricity, intelligence, sociability, affectivity and creativity . Social play is reflecting the degree to which children interact with each other and with the adults around them, demystifying the actual games where each person plays alone and usually with electronic materials. Cognitive play shows the child's mental development, but for that to happen, the child needs concrete experience, motivations, challenges, and problem situations.
