The study covers the public that frequents the space, the history of Padre João and how he became known in the city, as well as relevant urban aspects. Through an on-site visit, it was discovered that there was a large, little-used space and an unfinished structure. An interview was also carried out with local residents, in which the need for requalification of the space was identified. It was concluded that the memorial lacks some elements of urban furniture, the implementation of an outdoor gym, a modality increasingly present in public spaces, as well as a playground, new afforestation and the introduction of regional plants.Such improvements aim to provide residents with an adequate leisure place and attract tourists. Description: O presente artigo apresenta a fundamentação construída para o projeto arquitetônico de requalificação do Memorial Padre João José Marques Guimarães, situado em São Gonçalo do Rio Abaixo, Minas Gerais. O estudo abrange os públicos frequentadores do espaço, a história do Padre João e como ele se tornou conhecido na cidade, além de aspectos urbanos relevantes. Through the on-site visit, it was possible to identify problems in the existing structure and necessary improvements to ensure that the final result brings comfort and security to its users. Finally, it was concluded that with some improvements in infrastructure, accessibility and incorporation of points focused on neuroarchitecture that will be addressed in the body of this work, the building will be able to bring a series of activities aimed at improving the quality of physical and mental life of its users. Description: O presente artigo define diretrizes e fundamentos a serem seguidos para transformação do espaço existente em um centro de lazer para idosos, o mesmo explora os princípios da neuroarquitetura, da neuroestética, o funcionamento da parte cognitiva humana, os melhores estímulos para esta faixa etária e a relação entre a neuroarquitetura e o espaço, cada um através de referências bibliográficas, entrevistas e referências de design. Através da visita in loco foi possível a identificação de problemas na estrutura existente e melhorias necessárias para garantir que o resultado final traga aconchego e segurança para seus usuários.
