SENESCÊNCIA E INSTITUCIONALIZAÇÃO: REVISÃO LITERÁRIA ACERCA DA PERCEPÇÃO DE SOLIDÃO NO IDOSO

Abstract

This study aimed to review aspects of senescence and the perception of institutionalization about the elderly, considering the feelings of loneliness and depression experienced before and after entering care institutions. In this context, it aims to highlight the possible positive and negative effects of institutionalization. Therefore, adapting to experiencing suffering alongside strangers specifically to know whether institutionalization brings improvement or, on the contrary, causes greater segregation. It consists of a systematic review in which articles published in the database of the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCiELO) between 2010 and 2015 were analyzed. The results of this research led us, from the scientific literature, to understand that the institutionalization process itself favors the increase in feelings of loneliness among the elderly. Therefore, the literature review enabled the construction of a synthesis of knowledge on the subject, allowing to understand some challenges that permeate the universe of institutionalized elderly and that regardless of the characteristics and quality of the diversity of activities of the institution, the perception of loneliness and support varies from subject to subject. However, the existence or lack of some type of family support helps in the way of adapting to the institution and in the way of facing life and its adversities.
