A COLABORAÇÃO DO CIRURGIÃO DENTISTA NA UNIDADE DE TERAPIA INTENSIVA

Abstract

The necessity for professionals specialized in hospital dentistry is growing, especially in ICU environments. The work of dentistry professionals within hospitals aims to reduce infection and the occurrence of diseases resulting from a deficiency in oral care. Diseases such as bacterial endocarditis and cardiovascular diseases can have as their starting point the lack of oral treatment. This article aims to discuss the importance of the dental professional as a member of the health framework in hospital environments, more specifically in ICUs. The research method of the study was the relevant bibliographic review published in the last five years in the Virtual Health Library, using the following descriptors: dentist surgeon, Intensive Care Unit, infection reduction, in Portuguese and English. concludes that the role of the dental surgeon is fundamental in helping the humanized and individualized care of the patient, substantially contributing to the patient's recovery
