Abstract

The covid-19 pandemic changed the way of life in the world, including in Brazil, which had a high mortality rate. The rites of passage have always changed over the centuries, especially in western culture, however, in the covid-19 pandemic, this was shown in a significant and sudden way, due to social distance they were suspended, in order to reduce the proliferation of the virus. virus. Approaching psychoanalysis in the study made it possible to understand how the work of mourning happens for the effective elaboration in the face of the loss of the loved object, and the effects caused by the difficulty of facing it. The main objective of this article was to investigate how the grieving process is when the bereaved are not offered the possibility of farewell, in addition, the importance of farewell rituals for the work of mourning was analyzed, and consequently, the psychic impact was investigated. caused by the impossibility of carrying out funeral rituals and ceremonies. In the article, the bibliographic research was used as a scientific method, which provides a better understanding of the topic addressed, managing to survey several issues related to covid-19 and the work of mourning in this new pandemic scenario, in a sensitive way carried out by qualitative research. Through psychoanalysis, we can highlight the relevance of adopting farewell rituals for the complete elaboration of mourning, because there is a fundamental social bond for pain to be shared and, with that, transform it into suffering, managing to make, with that, this grieving process is completed
