CASUÍSTICAS DA OCORRÊNCIA DE CÃES ATENDIDOS COM LEISHMANIOSE ENTRE AGOSTO E OUTUBRO DE 2022 EM DETERMINADAS CLÍNICAS DA CIDADE DE TEÓFILO OTONI – MG

Abstract

Leishmaniasis is an important zoonosis, being a notifiable disease, which is often neglected. It has a wide geographic distribution and there is a high incidence in the central region of Brazil. The present study goal was to describe the frequency of attendance of dogs that were diagnosed positive for leishmaniasis. Data collection was carried out in five clinics in different locations in the city of Teófilo Otoni and in the municipal kennel, in order to identify positive animals that presented symptoms or were asymptomatic, and whether they adhered or not to the treatment or if they died. In the present study, 72 dogs with positive tests for leishmaniasis were identified between the months of August and October, among them 28 animals adhered to the treatment 7 were not informed and 37 were euthanized. Diagnosis and treatment depend on early detection of the disease in dogs, which is essential for developing strategies and control. This study proved that the casuistry of positive animals treated for Leishmaniasis in the city of Teófilo Otoni was considered low, but even so, according to the studies mentioned in the article and the data collected, it can be considered that we live in an endemic region for leishmaniasis.
