A gravidez é um momento único na vida da mulher. Atualmente grande parte das mulheres opta em ter uma gestação tardia, ou seja, após os 35 anos de idade por diversos aspectos sociais, econômicos e psicológicos. Entre os anos de 2008 a 2010, houve uma elevação de 6,7% na taxa de gestantes tardias . Assim, a presente pesquisa busca fazer uma revisão bibliográfica em relação à gestação tardia e suas complicações. Tais complicações incluem hipertensão, diabetes, abortos espontâneos e partos prematuros, os quais serão nosso foco de pesquisa nesse trabalho. A idade por si só não é o único fator de alto risco, a falta de acompanhamento de pré-natal e uma assistência de enfermagem adequada de parto condicionam os prognósticos maternos e perinatais em qualquer gestante, seja mais jovem ou acima dos 35 anos. Dessa forma os cuidados como pré-natal e um acompanhamento individualizado para uma gestação tardia traz mais resultados positivos e uma perspectiva menor de riscos tanto para a saúde da mãe, do feto e posteriormente para o recém-nascido. Enfatiza-se o papel do profissional de enfermagem, que deve estar preparado para lidar com situações da natureza descrita.
