Abstract:
Angle Class III malocclusion can be characterized by a dental discrepancy that
affects craniofacial development. This condition will have consequences on
stomatognathic function, and influence problems with masticatory function,
swallowing, speech, as well as respiratory and psychosocial problems. Its etiology
may be related to environmental factors or attributed to genetic inheritance patterns,
therefore it is necessary to observe the parental history. Class III treatment must be
based on the diagnosis and assessment of the degree of maxillary and mandibular
involvement so that the treatment achieves its objectives and impacts of facial
improvement. The objective of the work is to carry out a literature review on class III
maxillofacial development, its influences on stomatognathic function and craniofacial
development, as well as clarify the importance of early diagnosis and recognize the
influence of genes and the environment.

A má oclusão Classe III de Angle pode ser caracterizada por uma discrepância
dentária que afeta no desenvolvimento craniofacial. Essa condição trará
consequências na sua função estomatognática, e influência nos problemas na
função mastigatória, deglutição, fonação, além de problemas respiratórios, e
psicossociais. A sua etiologia pode ser relacionada a fatores ambientais ou atribuída
a padrões de herança genética, portanto é necessário observar o histórico parental.
O tratamento da Classe III deve ser baseado no diagnóstico e avaliação do grau de
comprometimento maxilar e mandibular para que o tratamento alcance os seus
objetivos e impactos de melhoria facial. O objetivo do trabalho é realizar uma revisão
de literatura acerca do desenvolvimento maxilofacial classe III, as suas influências
na função estomatognática e no desenvolvimento craniofacial, assim como
esclarecer a importância do diagnóstico precoce e reconhecer a influência dos genes
e do ambiente.
