TUMOR VENÉREO TRANSMISSÍVEL (TVT) EM CANINO: RELATO DE CASO

Abstract

Transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) is a contagious oncological disease, which appears mainly in the external genital tract of dogs. However, it can present extragenitally, in the respiratory system and subcutaneous tissue. Its transmission occurs through copulation and licking of the genital region, where tumor cells are mechanically moved from one animal to another. This type of tumor is more common in young, semi- or non-domiciled and sexually active animals. The present work aims to report a clinical case of TVT that presented itself in the genital region in a fertile male dog. The diagnosis was made through clinical evaluation and cytological examination in which it was possible to observe isolated round cells and in small aggregates, with peripheral round nuclei compatible with the disease Sticker's sarcoma. The initial treatment of choice was chemotherapy using vincristine sulfate at a dose of 0.5 mg/m2, intravenously, once every 7 days. Despite the sessions performed, only partial regression of the tumor was observed. Given the situation, we opted for surgical intervention, with partial penectomy performed due to the involvement of the final third of the penile urethra. After removing the tumor mass, it was sent for histopathology, where it was possible to accurately confirm the diagnosis, resolve the urinary impairment and restore the animal's well-being, which showed a complete improvement in the condition. After completing the treatment associated with surgery, the animal had no recurrences.
