American Heart Association e do National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute
(AHA\NHLBI) (2005).
(42,2%) do sexo masculino.
Ademais, ambos IMC deram acima do
SM. |

Objective:To identify the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (SM) and analyze the
risk factors in indigenous villages in the City of Aracruz.Methodology: This is a
cross-sectional study, carried out in the indigenous villages of Aracruz, with a
sample of 1084 indigenous people. The criteria defined by the American Heart

(2005) were used. Results: The data analyzed after exclusion referred to 1052
indigenous people, 608 (57.8%) female and 444 (42.2%) male. In this population,
525 (49.9%) had MS and 527 (50.1%) did not have SM. The average age of
individuals with SM was 46.9 (±14.3) and without SM 35.7 (±13.0). Furthermore,
both BMIs were above desirable, the group with SM with 31.6 (± 5.56) and
without SM with 26.9 (± 5.04). For both demographic and metabolic
characteristics, there were significant statistical differences, in which the group
with SM demonstrated higher averages, with the exception of HDL and height.
Conclusion: It is therefore inferred that the indigenous people of Aracruz had a
high prevalence of SM. |
