Abstract

This work addresses the issue of emotional abandonment of the elderly in Brazil, more specifically reverse negligence, from the perspective of Civil Law in its various areas, including Family Law, Obligations and Successions. During this research, the responsibility of family members with regard to ensuring a dignified old age was explored, highlighting the duty and obligation to protect, care for and support the elderly. We also examine the historical evolution of the role of the elderly in the family and society, analyzing the different cultural approaches in the relationship with the elderly, as well as the development of the rights and guarantees of the elderly since the promulgation of the Federal Constitution, through the Civil Code, National Policy of the Elderly and Statute of the Elderly. This monograph's main objective is to investigate the motivations underlying the abandonment of vulnerable elderly people, identifying its causes, consequences and the factors that lead people to commit this act. Try to understand the main reasons that lead to elderly people abandoning themselves and examine the repercussions and suffering faced by those who were left helpless. In summary, this work seeks to deepen the understanding of the emotional abandonment of elderly people, highlighting the relevance of ensuring a dignified and respectful life. By analyzing the origins and implications of abandonment, the objective is to contribute to awareness and promote the search for solutions that ensure the well-being of the elderly and prevent this form of neglect.
