Abstract

This study provides an in-depth analysis of the evolution of the rights of children and adolescents in Brazil, covering three distinct periods throughout history. The first period is characterized by the absence of adequate recognition of the rights of these groups, treating them as subjects incapable of exercising their citizenship. The study also comprehensively addresses the issue of violence against children and adolescents, highlighting its various forms, which include physical, sexual, psychological violence and neglect. The detailed exploration of each category of violence, based on research and expert authors, underscores the seriousness and complexity of this social problem. In addition, the study highlights the persistent challenges in the realization of the rights of children and adolescents. Although the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA) represents an advanced legislation, these legal provisions are often unknown to the majority of the population and are not properly complied with by the competent authorities. This underscores the ongoing need for awareness and action to ensure effective enforcement of legislation and respect for the rights of children and adolescents. The study concludes that there has been a significant evolution in the approach and guarantee of the rights of children and adolescents in Brazil over time, going through three distinct periods in history.
