TRATAMENTO CIRÚRGICO E NÃO CIRÚRGICO EM PACIENTE COM PERIODONTITE GENERALIZADA ESTÁGIO IV E GRAU C: UM RELATO DE CASO

Abstract

Periodontitis is a bacterial inflammation of the supporting dental tissues resulting from an infection of bacterial origin, with global prevalence. The condition was divided into chronic periodontitis and aggressive periodontitis according to the old 1999 classification, however, the new 2018 classification addresses the issue more comprehensively and effectively. The objective of this work is not only to demonstrate the indication and the surgical and non-surgical periodontal treatment of a patient diagnosed with stage IV and grade C periodontitis, showing the evolution of his clinical condition during the course of the treatment, but also to briefly address the disease periodontal disease, bacterial inflammation of dental tissues, some divergences from the 1999 and 2018 classifications and the need for a new periodontal classification. A priori, the patient underwent conventional non-surgical periodontal treatment, however, due to the presence of furcation lesions associated with mobility of the upper molar teeth, a modified widman flap surgery was performed to scrape the region in the open field, in order to enable the patient to clean the region in an attempt to keep the teeth in the mouth. Surgical treatment not only worked as an adjunct to non-surgical therapy, but also contributed to a better clinical outcome for the patient by alleviating the periodontal pockets contained in the region where it was performed.
